The City of Rexburg is getting a website redesign!

City Council recently approved the transfer of rexburg.org to a new web hosting company and with that will come a lot of updates to the site. Now is the time to work towards a more navigable, more functional, more user-friendly, and better overall website for the City and our residents and visitors.

Have you used rexburg.org? What have you struggled with on the site? What can we do better?

unknown author2 years ago PULL: Most websites just dispense information to those who happen to be drawn (pulled) to it to get answers. Examples: rexburg.orgrexburgarts.orgrexburgrapids.comtetonlakesgc.com / golfrexburg.comPUSH: Engage Rexburg is an example of a website designed to receive input from citizens. The city pushes information and questions to citizens by email, which links them to topics on engage.rexburg.org, where they can react and comment back to the city.But to be effective, Engage Rexburg needs a regular and continuous flow of information pushed out to citizens to involve them in both the routine and the controversial aspects of city governance. Citizen comments after an event or about a pending decision can be very helpful to city decision makers.

unknown author2 years ago I am a resident of Rexburg.I'm drawn to rexburg.org (pulled) when I am seeking information about city staff, city ordinances, or city events. Sometimes it is not easy to find the path to the information I’m looking for.Often links to rexburg.org that are given in the agendas of city meetings, just link to lists of stored files without indication of which file is the one currently being considered in the meeting. Please consider linking to the single, pertinent file, not to a list of files (many of which are just early drafts.)Please be sure, before transferring rexburg.org to the new web hosting company, that the old website and all its files and information have been SECURELY BACKED UP to prevent disastrous loss of records. The site is pretty.Why am I denied access to the zoning map without logging in? My login information doesn’t work for it! Denying access is the opposite of openness and transparency in government!

unknown author2 years ago A city site should be informational and functional for the citizens, pull tourism, encourage new residence, new business and support current businesses to sustain employment. "What's New" and "Attractions" should be #1 and you should add ALL attractions, no exclusivity. Parks, Museums, Game Store, Historic Sites, Ax throwing, Rope Course, Library, Family History Center, Gyms, Bike Paths, Restaurants, Seasonal Activities, Rexburg Rapids, LDS Temple, Trampoline Center, Rock Climbing, Senior Center, Garden Centers, Clubs, Rexburg Arts, Martial Arts, Parades , Art-walk, Just Serve, Corn Mazes, Rodeos, Sports Parks, Rexburg's own Florence's Chocolates and Golf Courses. Include close by things to do as well: National Forests, Horseback Riding, Yellowstone... Images should be of things to do here!

unknown author2 years ago Two things: City events need to be front and center on the website. We have so many businesses that are struggling. They should also be able to put their events on the website. If I remember correctly, Scott Johson said a phone app would be associated with the website. This is a great way to promote the two above comments. Another idea. The city does not have business licenses, but a company can register its business with the city. What if you encouraged companies to register their business, and part of the advantage of doing so is they can promote their events on the city site, and those events get pushed to the individuals that have the app?I would also suggest you do some rewards or contests to get the citizens of Rexburg to put the app on their phones. Lastly, I hope you are seeing the value of the phone app. This can also be an amazing emergency response platform. This is another reason to encourage and maybe incentivize Rexburg residents to install the app.Eric Erickson (not the council member)
