Addressing Rexburg’s Pickleball Needs

We heard the demand in our Parks survey and we want to address the need by looking to bring more pickleball courts to the City.

We've spec'd out a couple of options and we're looking for your input to make sure we are best addressing your needs and the needs of the greater community!

The Results Are In!

In 2023, the City of Rexburg identified a growing pickleball trend in our community and we set aside a budget to expand the program in the future. Of the 1200 residents that took the survey overall, approximately 200 respondents answered our survey confirming they play pickleball. As with any other activity, we recognize the trend might seem low, but that is still over 15% of the respondents, a credible amount, showing interest in a common activity. As a city, we are excited to expand our offerings for our residents and we look forward to continuing to grow our offerings for others in the future!

When asked what the preference was between 4 indoor or 8 outdoor courts, we were surprised by the closeness of the results!

  • 91 responded 8 outdoor courts
  • 102 responded 4 indoor courts

4 indoor courts had just a slight edge over 8 outdoor courts.

When asked if a monthly fee was something respondents would consider, the results were similarly close.

  • 89 responded no
  • 93 responded yes
  • 11 others gave alternative ideas or asked questions about the fees.

One other idea noted:

  • "I would pay a fee to reserve the courts. If I could pay $5 an hour or something like that to have a court reserved I would pay that."

Monthly access pass prices showed quite the range!

  • The low end was $3.00 and the high end was $100.00 per month.
  • The average was $19.50 per month.

One-time access fees also showed a significant range.

  • The low end was $1.00 and the high end was $40.00 per person per hour.
  • The average was $5.25 per use.

As noted, we recognize that not all residents are interested in pickleball facilities. This is why we included an option to share your other recreation hobbies and interests with us.

Some repeating hobbies we saw on this survey included:

  • Ice Skating
  • Swimming
  • Walking/Running
  • Hiking/Rock Climbing
  • Gardening
  • Dance
  • Bike Riding

This gives us ideas of where to look in the future as we continue to grow and expand our recreation offerings for the community.
