Addressing Rexburg’s Pickleball Needs
We heard the demand in our Parks survey and we want to address the need by looking to bring more pickleball courts to the City.
We've spec'd out a couple of options and we're looking for your input to make sure we are best addressing your needs and the needs of the greater community!
Phases
Polling for Pickleball
The City is planning to bid out and construct up to 4 pickleball courts this summer, 2024. We have been discussing the option to build 4 courts and potentially cover those 4 courts this Fall. The estimated minimum cost to cover them with a tension fabric structure with limited heating (baseline radiant heat) and minimal cooling options (two large garage doors to open for cross breeze when hot and louvered ventilation to help with condensation and air movement) would cost approximately the same as it would to build 4 additional courts.
Bathroom facilities would be located at the baseball quad building located nearby. A covered structure of this nature would certainly extend the playing season for pickleball and does provide other cost savings by not requiring us to install outdoor lighting and fences on the new 4 courts. We recognize there will be ongoing costs to run an indoor covered facility that would need to be addressed.
The City Council has asked us to put out a local survey to get feedback from our residents on whether they prefer 4 year-round pickleball courts or a larger quantity of outdoor courts.
