Community Building

As a city, we always say that Rexburg is unique in that our "sense of place" is much less in one particular building or event, as is common in many other cities. Here, our sense of place lies in the people that call it home. That is why we call Rexburg "America's Family Community."

And while we feel that the community does much to come together on its own, we want to continue to build upon that aspect of our well-being by providing more opportunities to share that sense of "community" with other residents.

Rexburg is looking to help connect the community and connect to the community!

We've compiled a few ideas that we're considering implementing in Rexburg. Please share with us your thoughts and opinions on these ideas and how you feel they would help you connect to Rexburg as a place and as a member of the community.

If communities share experiences together, does that offer a valuable form of connection to one another?If the City were to bring in more entertainment to appeal to a broader audience...What type of entertainment would you like to see? Where would they perform? unknown author2 years ago Some years ago, the Rexburg Police Department would visit neighborhoods around town with food and other members of the City staff to connect residents over a good meal.If the City were to reimplement these community get togethers, we could provide the food or possibly bring a food truck with us to serve the attendees. Would you be interested in ice cream socials, taco bars, potlucks? What would entice you to come to this type of event? Who or what would you want to see there? When would be a good time of year?Do you think your neighborhood would want to participate? Would your neighborhood consider bringing the City to it's existing block party event? unknown author2 years ago In many cities, the downtown area is a hub for the community to gather together and spend time on evenings and weekends.If the city were to work with downtown business owners to participate in an "Alive After Five" event, where community members were encouraged to come "shop the downtown" after 5 pm, would you participate? What would make you want to come to such an event regularly?Would you like to see this on all weeknights? Just Fridays and/or Saturdays? Or just one other night of the week?If you are a business owner in the downtown area, would you consider opening your shop in the evenings or one evening a week to participate in a community gathering event? If yes, what do you think would help make it successful? unknown author2 years ago Currently, the city offers various volunteer opportunities within different departments for various programs. These include recreation, arts, public works, parks, and police. What sort of project would you be interested in participating in? Is there a community need that you're aware of that you'd like to help fulfill? Would you consider a work-on-your-own-time project or coordinated events centered around community service? With so much of the community coming together to celebrate, we could really make our city shine!Is there a holiday activity that you would like to see Rexburg put together? What sort of holiday events could help bring the community together? Would such an event make you feel more connected to your city and the community?If we were to extend our holiday season with markets, entertainment, activities, and more that last a longer period of time (say 2-3 months,) would you be interested in attending on multiple occasions? Would a garden club that would be responsible for maintaining the space interest you? This club might plant flowers, prune trees, and more to maintain and beautify the space. unknown author2 years ago To beautify the city, we would love to see art installations around our public spaces, like in parks, downtown, on street corners, and more.We've seen examples in cities of painted objects placed throughout the city.
