There is a lot of talk about implementing an indoor pool, but I see flaws with that plan. As seen with Rexburg Rapids, you have odd times that the pool is open, due to the hired lifeguards' daily schedule. Also, as a taxpayer, I wouldn't want to pay towards an indoor pool that I would then have to pay an admission fee every time I want to use it. To mitigate this, I thought that the taxpayers dollars would be better spent towards an indoor park, modeled after the amenities of Porter Park. For example, have a heated sidewalk to the building for quick entrance in the winter months; have turf/artificial grass for easy maintenance; have a playground; have a splash pad (no need to hire lifeguards); indoor rooms for basketball and pickleball; have a small concessions stand or vending machines; and bathrooms and drinking fountains. This indoor park would benefit residents of all ages. Winter months can be fun for outdoor activities, but for those days that you are inside, it can create "cabin fever." Please consider this idea as a gateway to bringing the community together, especially throughout the winter/colder months.

@Susanna Oberhansley true. The Rec center could have all of that. The issue with Rexburg rapids is that is can only be open for a few month out of the year. An indoor rec center with basketball courts, pickle ball, indoor pool for lap swimming opens the door to a lot of options and things for people to do. We have an indoor facility at the high school that is open to the public, correct? As a taxpayer, if the city was going to make an indoor facility, you would still need to pay an entrance fee anyway. It light as well have a lap pool and the ability to host swim meets and basketball and the like.

Indoor pool, rec center with all of the things. This would help with additional swimming and sports that all can participate in.

I wonder if a community Public Safety event might work! I attended one of these a couple years ago in another city and it was wonderful. They had a fire truck, ambulance, police car, garbage truck, etc. anything to do with public safety and health. There were booths, activities, and food for families. You could go inside the fire truck, turn on the police siren, nurses and doctors were there to check children’s eyes, there were bags to collect items at every booth or activity. It was very well organized and attended and I think showed the community members how many people are there to help us be safe and healthy

@Jill Anderson I was thinking of something similar. I grew up in Boise and the city and St. Luke's Hospital there used to put on an event called KidSafe. They might still do it, I haven't lived there for awhile.
The event would include multiple booths or stations with themes like, Mr. Yuk poison stickers and education, fire safety with a working smoke house trailer where kids could practice escaping from a burning building, car seat instruction and fittings, first aid training, making a video interview of a kid for in case a kid goes missing where they might go hide favorite friends etc., firetruck, ambulance, police meet and greet, vaccination education.

Something that would help is finishing the construction at the exits quickly. It can get very difficult and/or confusing to get into town for residents on the other side of the highway. I don't know why they didn't just do one at a time.

I have been so impressed with the work and the speed of the project. They have worked to ensure traffic keeps moving safely, albeit slowly. Having lived through much construction though out the country, I add my kudos to this project.

I definitely don't deny that they've been working hard. It just seemed like a massive oversight to be working on both at the same time. It feels as though everyone on the other side of the freeway were forgotten. It's a massive hurdle to get anywhere in town on time when it backs up so much. Again I'm not trying to complain, but I also want to be heard as well.

I would love to see some chess/checker tables in our parks for those that need to get outside but are not necessarily into sports. They could even be incorporated into the picnic tables that are at the parks already.

A makers space.
A building with technology that may be out of reach or too expensive to purchase normally, such as 3D printers, CNC machine, laser etcher/cutter.
Where the public can have access and rent or use there.
Doesn't have to be all high tech, can include other creative equipment like sewing, pottery, etc.

@Steve Welch did you know that one exists right here in City Hall? You can learn more here: https://www.madisoneconomicpartners.org/services-4

@City of Rexburg I did not. Looking at it I can tell it's geared more towards startups and small business. Which is fine, but having no weekends and no day pass options, limits the hobbiest out there who are just curious.

Do we have personal connections to more recent historical events. For example, I come from a military town. Though there is a lot of connections to things like 911, Beirut, and other military events. Do we have some with our locals? Could we build/ add onto our military spot in Smith Park. Could we add things to recognize what is happening in Ukraine, Middle East, or South America?

What if we could also find small carnivals with some rides come in for a weekend or week? My old hometown did that in the parking lot of the mall.
