Art Installations

From "Community Building"

Go to the project

To beautify the city, we would love to see art installations around our public spaces, like in parks, downtown, on street corners, and more.

We've seen examples in cities of painted objects placed throughout the city. While that idea appeals to us, we would like to implement something unique and different in Rexburg.

What sort of art installations would you like to see placed around Rexburg?

Do you know a local artist who might be interested in working with us to create art that would be placed around town?

Would you participate in a community art project that involved members of the community working together to build unique pieces?

How else could we use art to beautify the spaces in and around Rexburg?

Share your ideas with us to see if this is a good option for us to pursue in the future!

If you like this idea or any of the ideas mentioned in the comments below, be sure to give them a like so we know how to invest our time!

This could be good, but is more often executed poorly (see the mural by Rigby Lake as an example). I think continuing to fund and maintain the beautiful landscaping in the city is a better option that we really appreciate!

Fix the parks first. Much of the existing play equipment is broken or vandalized.

@Nathan Lazenby I 100% agree with you. With our slogan as America’s Family Community the playgrounds should be a top priority.

I forget where we saw them, but a town had buffalo statues on many intersection sidewalks. But each one had a distinct paint scheme on it. Kids liked it. It was kind of an Easter egg hunt to spot the next one and pick your favorite. Something like that would be cool.

These are dreadful. I would prefer not to see junk cluttering our city. We want beauty, not kich objects.

@Michael Cornick to clarify, these are AI-generated images of "art installations in a park" - not a specific proposed design.

@City of Rexburg, thanks for the clarification. I just don't want any art installations like this, or any really, as they tend to be in bad taste. I would love to see beauty in sculpture and architecture. Not like the things we see at the Art Stroll.

I would encourage interactive art .. like in coeur d'alene there is Stanley the mosse and you have to walk around town to find him... Or art benches like Idaho Falls. My grandma helped paint the horses on the carousel so I encourage community artist

A neighboring town where I grew up did the same thing with bears. When I was young there were like a dozen. Now they have like 36 or something like that last time I checked. They're all painted different depending on where they are they kinda go with what is happening in that location of the bear. Some of them are REALLY cool.

If I were to pick art for the city I would consider an artist that attended school at BYUI or Ricks.
