Alive After Five (evening event)

From "Community Building"

Go to the project

In many cities, the downtown area is a hub for the community to gather together and spend time on evenings and weekends.

If the city were to work with downtown business owners to participate in an "Alive After Five" event, where community members were encouraged to come "shop the downtown" after 5 pm, would you participate? What would make you want to come to such an event regularly?

Would you like to see this on all weeknights? Just Fridays and/or Saturdays? Or just one other night of the week?

If you are a business owner in the downtown area, would you consider opening your shop in the evenings or one evening a week to participate in a community gathering event? If yes, what do you think would help make it successful? How could you contribute?

Share your ideas with us to see if this is a good option for us to pursue in the future!

Once a week at the most for this kind of event. Maybe even once a month, like a last Thursday of the month. Music would be key. Food trucks, etc would be nice.

I think it would be great to have a night where a couple of food trucks or vendors get together and make a date night or family night out with this. Set up some tables so people can also sit down and eat, while listening to local music and maybe have some artist out painting and show off their creations. Keep it small and intimate but still having it downtown. Or make a connection with local animal rescues to encourage people to adopt a pet.

It would be nice if there were more shops on Main Street and fewer call centers. Gift shops, cafes, and crafts would make spending an evening on Main Street more enjoyable and bring in more city revenue. (More parking would help too)

This seems like a fun way to have date night. As parents we would love to have somewhere to go that is slightly more grown up for date night. We love Fatcats, don't get me wrong, but having somewhere that has maybe music (doesn't have to be live), discount treats or drinks, etc once a week or even once a month would be a fund night out!
